BIO

Born on 11th September, 1998, Wei Soong grew up in Singapore and was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis, a rare neurological condition affecting his lower spinal cord, at age 2.

Initially as a form of physiotherapy to recover his lost strength, Wei Soong begun to swim soon after. However, he only discovered his passion for the sport at a competitive level at age 14, when he first represented Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) at the 55th National Schools Swimming Championships.

Since then, he has achieved success on the international stage, having won medals at the Commonwealth Games, the Asian Para Games, the ASEAN Para Games, and 4th place at the recent Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games for the S7 50M Butterfly event.

Wei Soong used to train under the legendary Coach Ang Peng Siong at the Aquatic Performance Swim Club (APSC) in the historical sporting grounds of Farrer Park. With the closure of Farrer Park in 2022, he continues his training under Coach Ang at his alma mater.

Outside of his swimming, Wei Soong is the Editor for ONZ Magazine, a local street fashion magazine that specialises in street photography, underground event coverage, interviews with local creatives and cultural movers, as well as directories of active fashion labels in Singapore. He is also the Editor-in-Chief for Ortus Journal, an international, multimedia journal publishing philosophical essays, short stories and other writings.

He is currently reading Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and has published several undergraduate journals of philosophy and PPE for his student clubs and societies.

In his spare time, he enjoys making clothes, playing his stratocaster and jazz bass, reading novels and writing essays on culture, philosophy and art. He has a black cat named Iz.
